See my original painting that
interprets how Hockney might have painted his own
cat!
If Hockney had had a cat, how do you think he would have
painted it? I borrowed from Hockney's techniques and created an original
scene featuring a cat. Using Hockney's famous style, I painted my
interpretation of how he would have portrayed his own cat
:-)
This cat art is an art parody of David Hockney's cat that inadvertently inspired the artist's famous California landscapes. These cat art parody cat prints are part of the Famous Artists' Cats series that shows there is more than one way to view a cat. Available as cat prints and canvas transfers.

These cat prints were originally painted in transparent watercolor. I'll let you in on a little secret. It began as a piece of paper that was used to test colors on for other paintings. You can see this in the variety of shapes and colors near the bottom of the picture that have now become wildflowers on the hillside. This unplanned placing of color on the paper gives a spontaneous, happy-go-lucky feeling to the painting, and contrasts nicely with the more structured crop lines in the fields. I saw the potential of this "accident" and knew it had to be left as part of the painting. "Accidents" occur often in painting, especially with watercolor, and the artist has to go with what is happening. They frequently work out and add just that extra excitement to the finished piece, as happened here. I wonder what David Hockney would
say if he knew I had given away the inspiration for his landscape
paintings. |

The cat prints of the David Hockney cat art parody cat painting are accompanied by the paragraph describing the story behind them. The story is printed in small type just below the lower left corner in the white border on the archival paper. With the canvas transfers, the paragraph is attached to the back of the stretched canvas, which is ready for framing. For more information about the cat art parody series and the cat prints or canvas transfers, please go to the Cat prints/Canvas transfers page.

David Hockney When the British-born artist
moved to California, he began to explore the patterns that
emerged in the landscape when viewed from above.
These shapes, vivid colors, and curving roads became
incorporated into his distinctive landscape style, which was heavily
influenced by the memory of the fields of his home in Yorkshire,
England. |
